COHerent Optical Resonance Transmitters

The 4th Project Meeting

30 September 2026 – Julight Srl, Trivolzio (Pavia), Italy

The 4th project meeting of COHORT (COHerent Optical Resonance Transmitters) took place on 30 September 2026 at Julight Srl headquarters in Trivolzio, Pavia, Italy.

The meeting brought together project partners to exchange updates on recent research and technological developments related to multi-aperture Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs), with a focus on coherent mode locking, high-speed dynamics, and industrial sensing applications.

The partners presented their latest progress:

  • Politecnico di Torino presented recent results on the vectorial modelling of multi-aperture VCSEL dynamics.
  • VI Systems GmbH reported on technological developments in split-contact multi-aperture VCSELs and their related applications.
  • Ruhr University Bochum presented experimental results on the high-speed dynamics of multi-aperture VCSELs, investigating the conditions required to achieve coherent locking of the modes.
  • Julight Srl reported on the application of multi-aperture and split-contact VCSELs in Self-Mixing Interferometry (SMI) configurations for industrial sensing.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress across the different research activities, exchange experimental and modelling results, and discuss the continued development of coherent VCSEL technologies for advanced optical sensing applications.
